Position Purpose
As a UAS Maintenance Manager and Instructor, you will be responsible for maintaining all UAS equipment, delivering maintenance training to staff, supporting flight training operations, and managing inventory. Your role includes performing regular inspections and repairs, developing and conducting training programs, collaborating with flight teams to ensure UAS readiness, and keeping accurate inventory records. Strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience in aviation maintenance are essential for this position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Fleet Maintenance & Airworthiness

Ensure the airworthiness and operational readiness of USI's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Fleet

Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, and component replacements in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and USI procedures

Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections, detailed systems diagnostics, and troubleshooting across all assigned platforms.

Develop and maintain maintenance schedules to maximize uptime and minimize operational disruptions.
Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate and timely maintenance records in Drone Logbook, including inspections, repairs, parts usage, and airworthiness data.

Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, industry standards, and internal safety protocols.

Support internal audits and provide documentation for customer and regulatory inquiries as needed.

Develop, maintain, and update USI's Maintenance Manual to ensure accuracy, compliance, and usability for internal teams and Authorized Training Providers (ATPs), including managing revisions, documenting procedures, and supporting ATP implementation needs.
Instruction & Training

Deliver high-quality instruction for USI's maintenance training programs, both internally and customer-facing.

Assess learner competency, provide feedback, and uphold USI's standards for instruction and certification.

Assist in developing and refining training content, materials, and curriculum related to UAS maintenance and safety.
Inventory & Logistics Management

Manage USI's UAS inventory, including aircraft, components, consumables, and tooling.

Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accurate tracking, packaging, and documentation.

Maintain stock levels, execute reorder processes, and ensure the readiness of training and operational equipment.
- Maintain stock levels for marketing items and support with shipping logistics.
Product Development Support
- Provide technical insight and feedback to support product development, testing, and evaluation initiatives.
- Assist with prototyping, field testing, and documentation of new tools, platforms, or training systems.
Facility Operations
- Maintain the Orlando USI facility, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and readiness for daily operations and customer visits.
- Perform basic facility upkeep, coordinate with vendors, and ensure a safe working environment.
Cross-Functional Flight Operations
- Serve as a cross-trained member of the operations team to support flight demonstrations, training events, and mission operations as required.
- Conduct flight operations in accordance with USI's SOPs, FAA guidelines, and safety protocols.
- Assist with student flight instruction during designated training events.
General Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Operations and Product Development teams to support organizational goals.
- Represent USI professionally during customer interactions, onsite trainings, and industry engagements.
- Continuously pursue professional development to maintain current knowledge of UAS technologies, regulations, and maintenance best practices.
Other Duties As Assigned
- Perform additional tasks as required to support the overall mission and goals of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation operations, technician, quality management, or related field.
- FAA Remote Pilot Certifications
- FAA Private Pilot (Preferred)
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (Preferred)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent organizational skills
- Desire for excellence in all aspects of work
- Ability to manage multiple projects/time in order to accomplish the required tasks
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to anticipate requirements and act proactively to support project requirements
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Primary work location will be USI's facility in Orlando, FL.
- Occasional travel may be required to support customer trainings, flight operations, and special projects
- Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver 50-80 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or work in confined spaces during maintenance activities.
- Must be able to hear clearly and communicate effectively, both in person and over radio/phone communications.
- Must be comfortable operating and working around UAS equipment, tools, and various mechanical systems.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity, including handling small components and tools.
- Will work in a variety of settings, including:
- Office environment for administrative and documentation tasks
- Classroom environment for instructional responsibilities
- Outdoor environments for flight testing, field training, and maintenance operations
- Must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, or light precipitation, as required for flight operations.
- Will be required to work with trailers and towing equipment; comfort with general automotive maintenance is expected.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels from tools, UAS engines/propulsion systems, and field operations.
