About the Certification
This certification validates an individual's foundational knowledge in small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) technology. The recipient has demonstrated comprehension of system components and interdependencies. This certification confirms the ability to apply industry standards and contribute effectively to the upkeep and safe operation of sUAS.

Certification Process
Step 1: Complete the prep course
The online course has hours of content, including explanation videos, practice exams, and original content developed by our team of experts.
Step 2: Take the exam
The exam is proctored online and consists of 70 multiple-choice questions. Participants have 1.5 hours to complete the exam and must achieve a 70% or greater score to earn the certification. Individuals are allowed up to three attempts to pass.
Step 3: Maintain your certification
Certification is valid for 24 months; recertification is accomplished by completing recurrent training.
Overview
What you'll learn in the prep course
The preparatory course consists of five modules:
Module 1: Explores key concepts, terminologies, and classifications associated with RPAS. Additionally, we will discuss their capabilities, applications, and the regulatory frameworks that govern their operation.
Module 2: Focuses on airframes, powerplants, aerodynamics, control surfaces, and factors affecting aircraft performance.
Module 3: Provides a comprehensive understanding of the transmission of information between the ground control station and the air vehicle, radio wave communications, modulation techniques, and the use of antennas and receivers.
Module 4: Explore the various types of control stations and their functionalities, focusing on the components of a ground control station, including hardware, data collection and processing, data storage, and the human-machine interface (HMI).
Module 5: Explores aerial remote sensing and the role of imaging payloads used in it, including optical, multispectral, hyperspectral, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and LIDAR imaging.
- This is an online, self-paced, and instructor-supported course.
- The course materials are provided online via USI’s Learning Management System.
- Instructor sessions are delivered using Microsoft Teams.
- You will have 12 months to complete the course and exam, which starts from the date you purchase the course.
