Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) may represent aviation’s best opportunity to interest people of all backgrounds in promising and rewarding career opportunities.
Deland, FL (May 5, 2021) – The Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) has partnered with Aviation Influence (AVi) to elevate the interest, engagement, and enthusiasm for UAS in our nation’s youth through hands-on STEM and programs focused on drones. The goal is to introduce the excitement and potential of unmanned technology through STEM offerings with a focus on underrepresented communities.
“Aviation has historically been a challenge to bring into the classroom as a STEM program because traditional manned aircraft are large and expensive,” stated Josh Olds, President and Co-Founder of USI. “Unmanned aviation provides a great opportunity to introduce this fascinating and exciting technology through STEM programs, and better yet, students can turn their interest in UAS into challenging and rewarding careers.”
Aviation Influence’s Board Chair, Bruce Ganger added, “AVi is committed to helping students discover their passion for innovation and technology through STEM initiatives. USI offers the industry’s most recognized and adopted curriculum and industry certifications, making this a natural partnership to offer schools a turn-key UAS program for the classroom that will keep students engaged and wanting more.”
The partnership will offer USI’s small UAS Safety Ground School for free. This course provides an in-depth understanding of basic aviation safety fundamentals while preparing the learner to take the FAA Part 107 test. Students could obtain this FAA certification, providing them with the necessary regulatory requirements to conduct commercial operations using drones. Both organizations will promote the relationship through social media and participation in numerous aviation events including National Aviation Day, Girls in Aviation Day, National Drone Safety Awareness Week, and at various aviation career expos.
