Workforce Development – From Classroom to Career
We provide an innovative curriculum tailored for the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Industry. Our programs integrate time-honored aviation practices with modern UAS technology and are aligned to International Standards, offering students industry recognized, third-party validated certifications to prepare them for the workforce.
Curriculum Overview
Prepare your students for the exciting world of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), also known as drones, with our comprehensive and innovative curriculum. Designed to provide a solid foundation in UAS technology, flight operations, and maintenance, these programs inspire students to explore career pathways in engineering, robotics, aviation, and more.
Commercial Remote Pilot
This course introduces the foundational knowledge required for remote pilots operating small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Students will explore the essential aeronautical knowledge as prescribed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Through theoretical instruction, practical exercises, and discussions, students will develop the skills necessary to work with UAS technology in a responsible manner.
Visual Line of Sight System Operations
This course prepares learners for successful visual line of sight operations with a small unmanned aircraft system. Participants develop a strong understanding of mission planning concepts, equipment preparation for transport, risk assessment strategies, Crew Resource Management (CRM) techniques for error reduction, and standard operating procedures.
Unmanned Aircraft System Technology
This course provides an introduction to sub-components and functions of small UAS, focusing on their design, electronic components, and movement. Through theoretical lectures, practical exercises, and discussions, students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work with UAS technology effectively.
Unmanned Aircraft System Maintenance
This course provides training on maintaining small UAS, covering maintenance principles, regulatory requirements, and the importance of accurate documentation. The course includes hands-on exercises that address aircraft component wear, stress, and corrosion and covers preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and line maintenance.
What our Educators say
I have been a public educator for 38 years and I have seen many things come and go in public education, but one thing that is here to stay is technology and real-world learning experiences that cognitively engage young minds while exposing them to career opportunities. This program is the complete package and is sure to challenge and excite learners of all ages."
Kim Adams
Operations Supervisor & Workforce Development Coordinator
When I was asked to start a Drones class I thought it sounded fun and would be something the kids would be interested in but I was worried that I didn't have any knowledge on the topic. Going into it, I didn't know the multitude of opportunities in this field but quickly realized that giving my students this opportunity could give them a skillset that would give them an edge in the job market. USI is knowledgeable and passionate and helped me to feel the same. I now feel equipped and excited to offer this to my students."

Even though my drone experience was limited, USI made the coursework and flight training accessible, informative, and enjoyable. I am so excited to share what I have learned with my students!"

Drones are no longer emerging—they’re essential. The industry now demands skilled professionals in flight, maintenance, and data. USI is leading the way, and we’re incredibly grateful for the impact they’re making.
Nikki Stancampiano
One student told me, ‘I didn’t realize my passion for aviation until this program.’ She earned every USI certification and even went on to get her private pilot’s license. The investment in USI doesn’t just benefit students—it builds lasting infrastructure for schools. This lab? It’s the house that USI built.
Dave Haynes, CTE instructor
Winter Park High School
USI’s curriculum doesn’t just cover the technical aspects of UAS operations—it also equips educators from non-industry backgrounds with the tools to teach risk assessment and safety planning. It’s a valuable resource that helps students think critically and prepare for real-world scenarios.
