PLEASE NOTE: Those outside of Ohio are welcome to apply, however, in-person flight training takes place in Columbus at The Ohio State University. Also, Ohio TechCred Funding is only available to Ohio Teachers.

The Introduction to Drone Technology Instructor Certification Program for Ohio Teachers consists of:

  • USI Primary Certifications Levels 1 through 4
    (Small UAS Safety Certification – Level 1 and 2 and Visual Line of Sight Operations Ground and Flight school)

  • The Program will prepare you for the FAA Part 107 written examination (and will pay for this certification test)

  • Each participant will receive:
    • Access to online learning management system (LMS)
      • Includes content, practice exams, and learning aids
    • Access to digital workbook
    • FAA Part 107 Study Guide
    • USI Instructor Safety Kit (numerous handy and essential items to promote drone safety)
    • One year license to UAS simulation software and required controller
    • Leading commercial drones for use during on-site flight training and certification test

The course opens January 29, 2024 in an online, self-paced, virtual instructor-supported offering. Applications will be accepted through March 1, 2024 March 31, 2024.

Knowledge-based, self-paced curriculum runs through May 31, 2024.

Multiple offerings available in June 18-20, 2024 for an in-person, 3 day / 2 night, hands-on flight instruction located at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Travel expenses are not included in course fees.

 

This special package is being offered at:

  • $1,975 for USI Small UAS Safety Certification – Level 1 and 2
    (Includes the cost of the FAA Part 107 certification exam)
  • $1,975 for USI Small UAS Visual Line of Sight (VSO) Ground and Flight school

TOTAL: $3,950 for the entire USI Primary Certification Program

  • Small UAS Safety Certification - Level 1 & 2 (Qualifies for reimbursement up to $2,000)
  • USI sUAS Visual Line of Sight (VSO) Flight (Qualifies for reimbursement up to $2,000)

The next application period for TechCred funding opens March 1, 2024.

In order to qualify for reimbursement, the TechCred Program Guidelines require the employer to pay for the training.

TechCred asks that applicants allow up to 60 days from the end of an application period for them to complete their application reviews and make award announcements.

When does the flight training take place at The Ohio State University?

The in-person flight training takes place at The Ohio State University over three days - June 18, 19, and 20th. 

If you are unable to attend these dates, alternate arrangements may be available. Please keep your USI Instructor informed if you are unable to attend the June 2024 dates.

Yes! If seats are available, this program is available to you.  
I don't live or work in Ohio. Can I apply?

Yes! It is $3,950 to complete the program. 

This was designed for those in the state of Ohio due to funding that is available for reimbursement from Ohio TechCred. 

If you do not live or work in Ohio, please note that the in-person flight training will take place at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH in June. There will be multiple options available so that you may select the one that is most convenient for you.

What is the recommended timeframe for completing each certification course?

We have prepared a program overview and pacing guide to help you find success with completing the coursework ahead of the in-person flight dates.

How does payment work?

We accept purchase orders paid by either credit card or check. 

If you do not require a purchase order, you may also pay via credit card or by check.

Tuition must be paid in-full before you will receive access to the coursework.

Do I have to start the coursework as soon as the course opens?

The knowledge portion of the coursework is self-paced. The course is available to complete between January 29, 2024 and must be finished by May 31, 2024 in order to attend the in-person flight training at The Ohio State University.

 

On average, users set aside around 40 hours per certification. You are welcome to complete the coursework at your own pace.

 

Online instruction is supported by USI Instructors. This hybrid live instruction program can be completed from the comfort of your home.

How long does it usually take to find out if my application will be approved by Ohio TechCred?

While this is a terrific question to ask Ohio TechCred directly, the great folks at TechCred have shared with us that it typically takes up to 60 days after the last day of the application period.
