Stay informed. Understand what's changing. Prepare for the future of BVLOS operations.
The future of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations is taking shape, and staying informed about the evolving regulatory landscape is important for everyone involved in unmanned aviation.
To help the UAS community navigate these developments, Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) has launched Get 108 Ready, a comprehensive, continuously updated guide designed to help drone operators, organizations, and educators understand the FAA's proposed Part 108 regulations and what they could mean for the future of drone operations.
Unlike a traditional guide or one-time regulatory summary, Get 108 Ready serves as an ongoing resource, tracking official developments and providing clear, practical information as the regulatory process evolves.
Our goal is simple: make complex regulatory information easier to understand and help the UAS community make informed decisions.
The guide includes:
Throughout the guide, USI distinguishes between existing regulations, proposed requirements, and areas where final decisions have not yet been announced.

A recent FAA publication illustrates the type of regulatory development USI is monitoring on behalf of the UAS community.
On November 3, 2026, the FAA published a new System of Records Notice in the Federal Register titled DOT/FAA 860, Unmanned Aircraft System Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations – Parts 108/146.
The notice describes how the FAA will collect, maintain, and manage information associated with three groups involved in the proposed BVLOS regulatory framework:
The document outlines the administrative systems and information-management processes associated with these activities, including application records, aircraft information, and authorization tracking.
Importantly, this publication is an administrative notice, not the final Part 108 operating rule. It does not establish an implementation date or change the current regulatory requirements for BVLOS operations.
For those following Part 108, the notice provides additional information about the FAA's planned administrative framework.
Read the official FAA notice in the Federal Register.
As the FAA's regulatory process continues, new publications, guidance, and decisions will help define the future of BVLOS operations.
USI's Get 108 Ready Guide is designed to keep the UAS community informed throughout that process, with ongoing updates grounded in official regulatory sources.
